AN EXOTIC OASIS

An inspiring Interior Design supports the culinary expertise of chef and owner Tarek Thoma’s new restaurant in Teesside.

Vision:

Our purpose was to create an atmosphere reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil, where flames from the open kitchen illuminated the dining space and music whisking diners away to exotic places. The name of the restaurant? Bazaar—an homage to the bustling markets of the Middle East, which served as the primary inspiration

Delivery:

The finished restaurant exudes style, charm, and originality. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by feature walls of terracotta-carved bricks sat beneath ivory and timber. Ceramic pots brimming with a variety of plants line the lobby, offering a glimpse of the inviting space beyond the glass doorway. Exotic music, warm lighting, vivid colour and a canopy of lush greenery overwhelm the senses and pull you into the restaurant with every aspect providing a perfect photo opportunity. The overall scheme feels middle eastern but doesn’t seem to be the complete focus of the style.

The arches above the kitchen counter were inspired by the architectural shapes found in Middle Eastern bazaars, providing a motif we carried through to the tiles, seating fabrics, and the bar backdrop. However, since the menu features dishes from around the world, the design isn’t too literal, allowing the freedom to explore more creative interpretations.

This creativity is evident in the dessert counter. A striking fiberglass canopy, shaped like cascading chocolate over a three-tiered cake, hovers above the horseshoe-shaped worktop. The rich, dark hue of the canopy compliments beautifully with the burnt salmon-coloured walls, while the circular white tiles below add a delicate, confectionary-inspired detail.

The flair for design is shown elsewhere too. Lush, hanging greenery drapes across the restaurant, evoking the feel of a Malaysian rainforest, while oversized fiberglass teddy bears in the men’s restroom add a playful, almost sci-fi twist.

A true Bazaar – in the North-east!
